US oil blockade violates Cuban people’s rights

New Delhi, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is currently living under a US oil blockade that is severely impacting the normal functioning of its economy and violating the fundamental human rights of its people, an official in Kerala, southern India, denounced.

At the opening ceremony of Vision 2031: An International Conference on Development and Democracy in the southern Indian state on Sunday, Aymee Diaz, coordinator for the Global South at the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), described as utter nonsense the move by the administration of US President Donald Trump to tighten the economic, commercial, and financial siege that Washington has imposed on the island for more than 65 years in pursuit of regime change.

Aymee affirmed that quantifying the emotional damage, anguish, suffering, and deprivation that the US siege inflicts on Cuban families is impossible.

“More than 80 percent of Cubans on the island were born after the start of the US blockade,” emphasized the official, who is on a working visit to India.

The PCC representative specified that the US government has an urgent need to divert attention from its serious internal problems and, in its eagerness to regain control of our region, has intensified its aggressive policy against Cuba to unprecedented levels.

She pointed out that imposing more than 240 measures during his first term, and reinstating Cuba in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list on the first day of his second term, was not enough for President Trump.

The coordinator added that on January 29, Trump, in his crusade against Cuba, signed an executive order declaring the Caribbean nation an unusual and extraordinary threat to the United States and, therefore, declaring a national emergency.
