Asturias activates collaboration with Cuba

Madrid, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) The Government of the Principality of Asturias, in northern Spain, has activated a collaboration with Cuba to strengthen energy self-sufficiency and sustainable development.

Prensa Latina informed that in response to the worsening energy siege, Asturias will launch a new cooperation initiative with Cuba aimed at boosting energy self-sufficiency projects and strategic development in the Havana province.

Through the Department of Territorial Planning, Urban Development, Housing, and Citizens’ Rights and the General Directorate of the 2030 Agenda of the Principality of Asturias, the program, with a budget of 20,000 euros, features two specific actions.

The first one is the financing of solar charging kits, primarily for rural and peri-urban areas, and the second one is the technical support for the implementation of the Havana Provincial Development Strategy, in collaboration with the University of Havana.

This initiative comes at a time of worsening energy restrictions affecting the island.

Deputy Minister of Citizens’ Rights, Beatriz Gonzalez Prieto (of the United Left party), emphasized that the objective is “to mitigate, to the extent of our powers, the effects of a US blockade that the Cuban people have suffered for 64 years and has been repeatedly condemned within the United Nations.”

Gonzalez Prieto emphasized that the recent tightening of measures has had a direct impact on fuel supplies, with consequences for transportation, schools, hospitals, and the supply of basic goods.
