The actions included a large-scale operation yesterday in the city center that resulted in the deaths of several gang members and the neutralization of others who were entrenched near Salomon Market, the Sylvio Cator Stadium, and Fequiere Street, Gazzette Haiti added.
The operation by the officers, with support from members of the Task Force, allowed for the recovery of territories under the control of illegal groups in those strongholds considered sensitive, a police report stated.
The operation, involving the deployment of several police units and the use of “kamikaze” drones, resulted in intense shootouts and numerous arrests as gang hideouts were targeted, Gazzette Haiti explained.
The Haitian National Police (PNH) also maintained a reinforced presence in the city center to consolidate the recaptured areas and prevent any attempt at retaken control by the gangs.
The officers utilized 10 new armored vehicles donated by the government of Canada to strengthen the operational capacity of law enforcement in their fight against the gangs.
Haitian society faces a general crisis across all sectors due to the growing insecurity caused by these criminal gangs, coupled with the authorities’ inability to neutralize them and hold democratic elections.
