Mexican intellectuals call on US counterparts to support Cuba

Mexico City, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) Mexican intellectuals and artists called on their United States counterparts to show the broadest solidarity with the peoples of Latin America, especially Cuba, amid the tightening of the US blockade.

In an open letter to intellectuals, artists, academicians, and university students in the United States, they stated that these are “crucial moments in the struggle for the survival of the human species in the face of civilizational and environmental collapse.”

The Mexicans stated, “We expect from you the strength of your voice and your moral authority to be reflected in specific actions that demonstrate the broadest solidarity with the peoples of Our America and, especially, with the Cuban people, stronghold of Latin American and Caribbean dignity.”

Members of the Mexican Chapter of the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity echoed the call made by the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) to the global intellectual community to denounce the blockade imposed by Washington and the recent energy siege against the island.

The Chapter noted that the signing in January by US President Donald Trump of an executive order threatening to impose tariffs on countries that supply crude oil to Cuba was described by UNEAC as an attempt at genocide.

The group also referred to those who were against the Vietnamese war, those who currently denounce Washington’s military strike on Venezuela on January 3, and the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

The Network’s members, including Miguel Alvarez, Alicia Castellanos, Dulce Castro, Tatiana Coll, Polo Castellanos, Ana Esther Ceceña, and Carlos Fazio, among others, signed the document by underscoring their stance of “With Cuba, Forever.”
