A sword from the Crusader period has been discovered in Israel.

Tel Aviv, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) An Israeli student discovered a 12th-century sword off the coast of Haifa, dating back to the Crusader period, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported.

The newspaper detailed that the weapon is one meter long and was taken to the conservation laboratory of the Leon Recanati Institute of Maritime Studies at the University of Haifa and then to Elisha Hospital, where it underwent advanced computed tomography.

According to the studies, the sword was crafted in Europe and brought to the area by a soldier who participated in the Crusades, as the military expeditions with the stated objective of conquering the so-called Holy Land for Christians are known.

The discovery is exceptional and enriches our knowledge of the material culture of the Crusader period, noted Dr. Sarah Lantos, of the Department of Maritime Civilizations at the School of Archaeology and Maritime Cultures of the University of Haifa.

In 2021, a diver found a sword from the same period off the coast of that city.
