Iran denies “provisional agreement” on its nuclear program

Tehran, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei categorically denied claims of a "provisional agreement" in the nuclear negotiations between his country and the United States, calling them completely unfounded.

At a press conference held in Tehran, Baghaei explained that various accusations regarding the content of the ongoing negotiations with Washington have recently been circulating.

However, he insisted that Iran is willing to accept an agreement that guarantees its rights, addresses the nuclear issue, and includes the lifting of economic sanctions imposed by the West.

“We are ready to negotiate an agreement that respects Iran’s rights and, at the same time, ensures the lifting of sanctions, but under no circumstances will we accept solutions that do not recognize our sovereignty and our national interests,” Baghaei declared.

“We are prepared to negotiate an agreement that respects Iran’s rights and, at the same time, ensures the lifting of sanctions, but under no circumstances will we accept solutions that do not recognize our sovereignty and our national interests,” Baghaei stated.

The spokesman also reiterated Tehran’s stance against any potential aggression, warning that Iranian forces are on “permanent alert” to defend the homeland. Iran would respond firmly to any attack, he affirmed.

Baghai’s statement comes in the wake of the recent confirmation by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi that a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, next Thursday.
