The trial will be held at the STF headquarters in Brasilia during three sessions, two this Tuesday and one on Wednesday, and will examine the complaint filed by the Attorney General’s Office against five individuals accused of being the masterminds and accomplices in the murder.
The defendants include Domingos Brazão, a member of the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Auditors, and former federal lawmaker Chiquinho Brazão, both accused of orchestrating the crime.
Former Rio de Janeiro Civil Police chief Rivaldo Barbosa and others implicated in the planning and execution of the murder are also accused.
The case’s rapporteur, Judge Alexandre de Moraes, will preside over the trial and will include Justices Carmen Lucia, Cristiano Zanin, and Flavio Dino, members of the First Chamber.
The Federal Police investigation stated that the March 14, 2018 murder of Franco was related to her opposition to the interests of the political group led by brothers Domingo Brazão and Chiquinho Brazão, who were involved in territorial disputes in areas controlled by militias in Rio de Janeiro.
