Infantry and armored vehicles are participating in the fighting, local media reported.
According to sources, Mustariha is controlled by Musa Hilal, a tribal leader of the Janjaweed militias, and is considered a very important location in North Darfur.
The attack began yesterday from several points, the Sudan Tribune reported on Tuesday, with the objective of eliminating Hilal, whom they consider to be linked to the Sudanese Army.
The Sudan Tribune also reported that one of Hilal’s sons was captured during the operation. The Janjaweed militia has been accused of being responsible for serious crimes committed during the so-called Darfur War, which began in 2003.
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been plunged in another internal war, following renewed power struggles between Army Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
The fighting has already destroyed countless livelihoods, plunging the country into a complex spiral of hunger and death.
