Nearly 4,000 deported this weekend in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) A total of 3693 undocumented immigrants were detained and 3858 deported during interdiction operations carried out this weekend in the Dominican Republic, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported.

The operations began early Friday morning and were concentrated mainly in the Ozama Region, which includes Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, and San Cristobal.

In Greater Santo Domingo and the National District, 526 people were apprehended.

The operations covered areas such as Los Mina, Vietnam, and Katanga; Villa Faro, Sabana Perdida, and Ciudad Juan Bosch in Santo Domingo East; as well as Herrera and Manoguayabo in Santo Domingo West.

Operations were also carried out at motorcycle taxi stands (a transportation service that uses a motorcycle to transport passengers) and commercial areas of the National District. In the Los Mina sector of Santo Domingo East, the DGM indicated that targeted interventions continue as part of the territorial control plan, in coordination with state security agencies.

In the rest of the country, operations extended to the Higuamo and Yuma regions—Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macoris, El Seibo, La Romana, and La Altagracia—; Valdesia—Azua, Peravia, San Jose de Ocoa, San Juan, and Elias Piña—; and Enriquillo—Bahoruco, Barahona, Independencia, and Pedernales—.

The DGM reiterated that these actions are carried out in coordination with military institutions and the National Police, in compliance with the General Migration Law, under due process and with regard to internal security.

The deportees of Haitian nationality returned to their country of origin through the border crossings of Dajabon and Elias Piña, according to the DGM.
