The first suspect, Jerry Facile, was arrested for his alleged involvement in kidnappings in recent months and his key role within the network in identifying targets and coordinating operations against them, the Gazzette Haiti added.
Revelations obtained during interrogations conducted by the Judicial Police after Facile’s arrest led to the apprehension of Béatrice St-Fort, another active member of the gang and Facile’s accomplice.
Both arrests followed a Haitian National Police (PNH) operation during which two gang members were killed. The gang members had impersonated police officers to kidnap unidentified individuals at the Saint-Louis de Gonzague Catholic school in the capital.
PNH agents are investigating the detainees as suspected members of a network specializing in extortion kidnappings in Port-au-Prince, according to the Gazzette Haiti.
The PNH reiterated its commitment and determination to eradicate criminal gangs and dismantle, in particular, the networks dedicated to kidnapping, violence, and other criminal acts that disrupt public order and keep the population in a state of tension.
