In a statement resulting from a meeting commemorating the 45th anniversary of its founding, the Association strongly condemned what it described as Washington’s brutal actions against the Caribbean nation.
It rejected the decision taken by the administration of US President Donald Trump to block oil shipments to the Caribbean nation, describing it as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
It stated that Trump has issued a new threat of regime change in Cuba following the January 3 strike on Venezuela, the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, and the murder of Cuban combatants deployed to protect that nation’s head of State.
It also underscored that the subsequent US executive order, which uses the US tariff system as a weapon against all countries attempting to sell oil to Cuba, is a calculated strategy to leave the Caribbean nation, which has suffered a blockade for over 65 years, economically weak and defenseless.
The Association noted that the United States believes it can destabilize the country by tightening the Cuban economic crisis and forcing its submission.
However, there is no real military threat. Cuba symbolizes 67 years of unwavering struggle and has refused to cede its sovereignty.
