Lebanon calls for pressure on Israel to withdraw from its territory

Beirut, Feb 25 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon urged influential and friendly countries to exert pressure on Israel to cease its violations of Lebanese sovereignty and withdraw from all the territories it still occupies, it was reported here.

According to press reports from this Arab nation, the call was made by Foreign Minister Youssef Raji during his address to the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, which is being held in Geneva from February 23 to March 31.

As reported by the Lebanese National News Agency, the Foreign Minister reiterated Lebanon’s “absolute support for the international human rights system,” in line with the reform program adopted by the current government.

Raji explained that this approach is based on strengthening democracy and the rule of law, combating corruption, revitalizing the economy, and extending state sovereignty to the entire national territory, including exclusive control of weapons by legitimate security forces.

The minister considered that achieving these objectives requires the international community to pressure Israel to end its operations in Lebanese territory, release prisoners, and facilitate the consolidation of state authority.
