“Given the overwhelming response from the Mexican people to the collection drive for Cuba, we have decided to keep several centers open,” Aline Perez, a member of the Movement’s Coordinating Committee, told Prensa Latina after the campaign concluded in the Zócalo on February 22.
The activist explained that the collection points, where donations are already arriving, have been open since last Monday at a Pilares location in the Cuauhtrmoc borough and three in Venustiano Carranza, and will remain open, in principle, until March 6.
The organizers called for donations of medicines, syringes, sutures, cotton, latex gloves, and food items such as powdered milk and cooking oil.
Nationally, the Movement continues with similar centers in several states, in a context marked by the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation for more than 60 years.
Last Sunday, the campaign “From People to People, Let’s End the Blockade,” organized by the Militant Solidarity Collective Va por Cuba and the Jose Marti Association of Cuban Residents in Mexico, concluded in the Zocalo square of Mexico City.
