The action, in which a group of Cubans residing in the United States attempted to enter the Caribbean nation with weapons for terrorist purposes, according to Cuban authorities, was described by the group as illegal.
“Unauthorized entry into the territorial sea of a State is a direct violation of its sovereignty, an essential principle of international law enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, the group stressed.
And added that When such an incursion is accompanied by weapons and hostile conduct, the gravity of the situation is even greater.
The group emphasized its rejection of any armed action that disregards the territorial integrity of a country.“States have the right and the duty to protect their borders and guarantee the security of their populations within the framework of the law,” it emphasized.
It also requested that the facts be fully clarified, that differences between states be addressed through diplomatic channels, and that aggressive escalations be avoided.
“Colombia and Cuba share historical ties of friendship and cooperation. From the Parliamentary Friendship Group, we reaffirm our commitment to mutual respect, non-interference, and dialogue as the paths to resolving tensions between nations,” the statement concluded.
