On behalf of the Bolivarian Government, the high-ranking diplomat recalled that on February 27, 1976, in Bir Lehlu, the Polisario Front (Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro) proclaimed independence following the Spanish withdrawal.
Gil noted that this date commemorates “half a century of struggle for self-determination, sovereignty, and independence from Moroccan occupation.”
