According to the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Pune, the day is designed as a space for outreach and citizen participation, with access for students, researchers, and the general public.

The program includes lectures given by prominent female scientists and academics, who will address ongoing research and the impact of women’s participation in strategic sectors of science and technology.

In addition, there will be experimental demonstrations, laboratory visits, and interactive activities aimed at encouraging scientific vocations among young people and school children, with an emphasis on inclusion and gender equality.

National Science Day is commemorated every February 28 in India in honor of the discovery of the Raman effect and serves as a platform to promote scientific culture and the link between academic institutions and society.
