On behalf of the Ecuadorian doctors who graduated from ELAM, Dr. Cristina Aldaz, executive secretary of the International Medical Society, said they will join the flotilla scheduled to arrive in Havana on March 21.
In statements to Prensa Latina, Aldaz reported that on March 19 they will hold a political and cultural event at the Ecuadorian House of Culture (CCE) in Quito, with artists and social groups, to raise funds for the convoy.
The convoy carrying aid to Cuba will depart from Mexico with medical supplies, solar panels, and other donations for the Cuban people, while hundreds of activists plan to arrive on the island by air.
The Caribbean nation faces a severe fuel shortage and prolonged blackouts as the Trump administration intensifies the embargo.
In this context, the Ecuadorian Coordinating Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba is promoting a fundraising campaign to purchase essential goods to send to the Cuban people.
In a meeting at the Cuban embassy in Ecuador, friends of the island agreed that, in addition to material aid, they intend to “communicate the truth about Cuba” and visit the island as tourists or with solidarity brigades to see firsthand the reality of Cuban life, their hardships, but also their values, culture, and resilience.
