The Vietnamese capital will continue to be one of the cities with the highest number of elected representatives nationwide for the 2026-2031 term, Tran The Cuong, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Council and the City Election Committee, noted.
The Cuong explained that Hanoi plans to elect 32 representatives to Parliament (15 nominated by the central government and 17 by the city), 125 representatives to the city’s People’s Councils, and 3,164 representatives to the People’s Councils in 126 communes and districts.
He said the total number of voters registered in the city is 6,061,171, the polling stations will total 4,097, and the Municipal Election Committee is composed of 37 members.
He added that 11 National Assembly election committees, 31 Municipal People’s Council committees, and 831 People’s Council committees at the communal level were established.
The Cuong told the Hanoi Moi newspaper that after three rounds of democratic, objective, and legally compliant consultations, the city compiled an official list of 39 candidates for the Legislative, 205 for the City People’s Council, and 5,271 candidates for the communal-level governing bodies.
