The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), through its Food Systems Resilience Program, in partnership with the World Bank (WB) and the Center for Coordination of Agriculture Research and Development in Southern Africa (CCARDESA), convened the two-day event.
The forum brings together ministers, senior government officials, technical experts, development partners, and national coordination centers from East and Southern Africa to align climate-smart agriculture priorities with national and regional investment frameworks.
A statement noted that agriculture remains the backbone of the IGAD region’s economies, employing the majority of the population and contributing significantly to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
However, recurring droughts, erratic rainfall, land degradation, and climate variability continue to undermine productivity and resilience.
