Italian workers launch new campaign in support of Cuba

Rome, Mar 6 (Prensa Latina) The Union of Base Trade Unions (USB), one of Italy's largest labor unions, launched a new campaign on Friday in support of Cuba, and in response to new measures by the United States that tighten its economic blockade, which violates human rights.

A statement released on the organization’s official website calls for a fundraising effort to finance the “One Medicine for Cuba” initiative, aimed at supporting public health in that nation, which is facing difficulties due to the increased pressure from the US government.

The document refers to the signing of an executive order by US President Donald Trump on January 29 to block fuel shipments to the island, with threats of increased tariffs for countries that defy the ban, which seeks to destroy the country’s economy and harm its population.

The text states in relation to these genocidal measures, “What the Trump administration is imposing on Cuba is not a blockade, it is an act of war against an entire people,” and it is “a cowardly war, waged not with bombs, but with hunger, darkness, and siege.”

This new solidarity campaign joins many others currently being boosted in Italy by several organizations, including the “Energy for Life” campaign, launched to the end of 2025 with the co-sponsorship of organizations such as the Cultural Association for Social Promotion (ARCI) and the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC).
