According to the National Election Commission, 243 candidates are vying for seats in the new legislature, whose election will conclude a process officially described as smooth, transparent, and legal.
In a recent press conference, the Vice President of the Legislative Assembly and Deputy Chairman of the Subcommittee on Propaganda and Electoral Mobilization, Chaleun Yiapaohher, emphasized that today’s elections “have significant political importance for the Lao people, recognized in the 2025 Constitution as the holders of state power.”
Both the National Assembly and the People’s Councils play a vital role in safeguarding national and community interests, protecting citizens’ rights, and contributing to the country’s overall development goals, he emphasized.
Chaleun also referre to the nationwide campaign to raise voter awareness and encourage thoughtful participation in the electoral process, promoting the election of candidates who could genuinely represent people from all ethnic groups and safeguard the rights and interests of the population.
