In several posts on the social media platform X, the Ministry of Defense reported that three ballistic missiles launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base were intercepted and destroyed by the kingdom’s defense systems.
It also stated that air defense forces shot down a drone in the eastern regions of the country.
The ministry further reported the interception and destruction of a drone and a cruise missile east of the Al-Kharj Governorate, located southeast of the capital, Riyadh.
Later, Saudi authorities reported that three more drones were intercepted and destroyed east of the Riyadh region.
To date, the Ministry of Defense has not specified the origin of the missiles or the drones used in the attacks.
The incidents coincide with a series of actions attributed to Iran against targets in several Arab countries, amid a regional escalation following the start of a sustained military offensive by Israel and the United States against Tehran. Since February 28, eight Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Iraq, have been targeted by missile and drone attacks, according to regional reports.
