The territories of Masisi and Walikale are the center of the fighting, where both forces are constantly vying for control of the towns, despite the ceasefire agreed upon by the parties and in effect since February 18. Yesterday, the strategic city of Kazinga, in the Osso Banyungu sector of Masisi, was retaken by the Congolese Army after two weeks of occupation by AFC/M23 rebels.
The Armed Forces, supported by the Wazalendo militias, launched an offensive that resulted in the recapture of the city after intense fighting with heavy and light weapons, reported Actualité.CD.
The insurgents were also forced to abandon their position at Mukole, in the Balindu area of the Kisimba group, part of Walikale, after heavy fighting on Monday.
The rebels retreated towards Ihula, an area located on the border between Walikale and Rutshuru territories.
