Application process for Citizen Power of Venezuela concludes

Caracas, March 13 (Prensa Latina) The selection process for Venezuela's Attorney General and Ombudsman concludes today after the National Assembly's (parliament's) Nominations Evaluation Committee extended the deadline by five days.

Committee coordinator Giuseppe Alessandrello announced last Monday that the extension of the eight-day timeline was due to the high number of applications received.

He added that “in view of the number of phone calls and in-person visits” to parliament from citizens requesting more time to submit the required documentation, the Committee “met and decided to grant an extension until 10:00 a.m. today” (local time).

Alessandrello specified that once this step is completed with all applications submitted, the evaluations will begin, according to the established schedule.

The President of the Legislative Branch, Jorge Rodriguez, commented that, according to reports, “a record number of applications were submitted” for those aspiring to the positions of Attorney General and Ombudsman.

Regarding this, the Committee coordinator commented that they had received significantly more applications than in the previous year, when the heads of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ombudsman’s Office, and the Comptroller General were elected.

He stated that this demonstrates the growing public interest in participating in this type of process.

On Wednesday, concurrently with the application period, the Committee began interviewing aspiring citizens.

Last week, the National Assembly published the fundamental requirements for applicants, which were disseminated through the national press and the parliament’s social media channels.
