In statements to Prensa Latina before concluding a visit to India to participate in the Raisina Dialogue, a strategic event held in Delhi from March 5 to 7, Cabañas, who is also the director of the Center for International Policy Research (CIPI), described as severe the impact on the Cuban population of the unprecedented tightening of Washington’s economic blockade policy.
He noted that the Cuban Government has taken decisions such as reorganizing transportation, medical services, and education due to fuel shortages caused by Washington’s threats against countries that attempt to trade with Cuba.
The diplomat pointed out that the Caribbean nation has the capacity to adopt those necessary measures because it is a single country, with a single nationality, and shares a common purpose of moving forward through its own strength.
He reiterated, “However, there is no doubt that the impact of Washington’s actions is severe, and this comes on top of previous measures that the US administration had already been taking.”
He added that it also affects a large portion of the US population, as it hinders scientific exchange in the areas of health and education, with potential benefits for citizens of the northern nation as well.
Regarding claims from Washington about alleged negotiations with Havana in exchange for certain concessions, Cabañas emphasized that Cuba will be ready to negotiate with the United States, always based on respect, equality, and symmetrical decisions.
