Guatemalan political party sends greetings to the Cuban press

Guatemala City, March 15 (Prensa Latina) The Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity (URNG) party sent a heartfelt and revolutionary greeting in honor of Cuban Press Day, established in 1892 on the centennial of the newspaper Patria.

In a statement sent today to Prensa Latina, the Guatemalan political force emphasized that journalists on the largest island in the Caribbean are characterized by carrying in their conscience and hearts an immense love for the country.

Through their journalistic work, they have shown the world their conviction and commitment to defending the truth, remarked the group of the historical left in this Central American territory.

Throughout the different eras of the Caribbean nation, these men and women have given the world an example that, with honor, courage, and truth in hand, many revealing pages of reality can be written, the statement added.

Since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution (in 1959), U.S. imperialism and its lackeys have tried at all costs to hide, manipulate, misinform, and distort the truth about Cuba, the URNG stated.

The mainstream media have tried to subdue this movement by constructing elaborate false narratives, in which the brutal U.S. blockade has imposed great difficulties, including on communication, it affirmed.

The heroes and heroines of the Cuban press have managed to defeat these attempts, breaking through the imposed media blockade, it asserted.

In the contemporary world, where social media, artificial intelligence, and all technology are used in a mercantilist manner to satisfy the interests of large multinational corporations and in defense of the neoliberal capitalist system, the Cuban press remains a living example of heroism, it emphasized.

The URNG also added, exemplifies unquestionable ethics and morality, a profound love for the homeland, and a boundless defense of truth, justice, and peace.

In 1992, the Union of Journalists of Cuba promoted the initiative, using Jose Marti, founder of Patria newspaper on March 14, 1892, as a guiding figure.
