We are collecting materials to bring to Cuba, to the people who need them so much, and also to tell the world that at this moment the revolutionary island needs all our solidarity, declared to Prensa Latina the secretary of International Relations of the Communist Party of Brazil, Ana Prestes.
The leader, one of the participants in this international initiative that will converge in Havana on March 21, recalled that the Antillean country has historically offered its solidarity to all the peoples of the world, to which it has brought, for example, health and education.
Now is the time to return that solidarity to Cuba, said Prestes, who also explained how the process of organizing this initiative in the South American nation has been.
Each of the organizations, workers, students, women, have collected donations, what people can offer so that we can take it to Cuba, he explained.
He added that the efforts also include doing everything possible together with governments, as calls are being made in Brazil for the Executive of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to become more involved in supporting the island, especially in solving the most critical issue, linked to access to fuel.
According to the initiative’s digital page, Convoy Nuestra América is an international coalition of individuals and organizations that seeks to bring urgent relief to the Cuban people.
This initiative was launched following an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump on January 29, which declared Cuba a supposed national emergency and threatened to impose tariffs on those who sell oil to the island. which amounts to the imposition of an energy blockade.
The action aims to bring as many essential supplies as possible, such as food, medicine, flashlights, chargers and solar lamps.
Last February, PCdoB confirmed its participation in this solidarity mission together with organizations such as the National Union of Students, the Brazilian Union of Middle School Students, the Socialist Youth Union and the Rural Landless Workers Movement.
The Central Brazilian Workers Union, the Unitary Central of Workers, and the Brazilian Center for Solidarity with the Peoples and the Struggle for Peace, among other groups, are among the groups.
For the PCdoB, action is an extension of its internationalist principles of defending national sovereignty and solidarity with peoples against the illegal practices of imperialism.
