This is “an act without diplomatic justification and contrary to the principles of cooperation, sovereign equality, and non-interference,” adds a statement from that institution published by local Surcos magazine.
The organization’s statement emphasizes “its solidarity with the Cuban people and government” and affirms that this nation’s decision “represents a deterioration of the friendly relations between both nations and damage to the historical ties built between both peoples.”
The statement noted that this measure is part of a series of actions that the CBYLO members consider “contrary to national sovereignty and democratic principles.”
The statement released by Surcos recalls “historical ties that include figures such as Antonio Maceo and Jose Marti (present in Costa Rica at the end of the 19th century), as well as shared processes in regional history.”
It also expresses its rejection of the decision adopted by the Costa Rican government and describes it as “a hostile act toward the Cuban people.”
The statement expresses solidarity with the diplomatic staff of the Cuban Embassy in Costa Rica, reaffirms solidarity with the Caribbean nation, and calls “for unity among the peoples of Latin America, as well as an end to the US blockade and other measures that affect the island.”
