Diaz-Canel condemns reduction of Costa Rica-Cuba relations

Havana, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel criticized the Costa Rican Government for reducing its relations with Cuba, and assured that, with this decision, the country is yielding to pressure from the United States.

Diaz-Canel wrote in a post on his X and Facebook profiles, “We reject the unilateral decision of the Costa Rican government to lower the level of relations with Cuba, limiting them to the consular sphere, without any argument or justification.”

The president also commented that “this is an unfriendly act, which responds to evident pressure from the US Government, as part of its renewed offensive to try to add other countries to its failed policy against Cuba.”

The head of State also asserted that this position “will clash with the strength of the historic and close relations” between the Costa Rican and Cuban peoples.

Diaz-Canel published, on the said platforms, the statement issued by the Foreign Ministry (MINREX) regarding this matter, specifying that, as of April, relations between the two nations will be solely at the consular level, at Costa Rica’s request.
