The shipment is part of a cooperation of the European Convoy Let Cuba Breathe, which involved several solidarity groups, as well as social, labor, and political organizations from Italy, Switzerland, England, Austria, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal, France, Greece, Algeria, Iceland, Scotland, and Spain.
The donation consists of five tons of medical equipment and supplies, medicines for the Cuban healthcare system, and renewable energy equipment.
Italian MEP Ilaria Salis told reporters that this is a contribution from the organizations and people of these nations to Cuba, which is subjected to the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade, which she described as criminal, illegal, genocidal, and contrary to international law.
Salis emphasized, “This is not the solution, but it is a sincere and supportive contribution to the Cuban people.”
Italian MEP Domenico Lucano pointed out that Cuba is facing the most powerful country in the world without yielding; therefore, this aid to its people is also a way of saying no to the US blockade.
Rigoberto Zarza, European director of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), welcomed representatives of solidarity organizations and the donation at the Jose Marti International Airport.
