An article published on the Sky TG24 news website quotes Crosetto as saying that European governments, in response to a call from US President Donald Trump, “have refused a mission that could almost be considered a war in that channel.”
“What all countries yearn for is an international multilateral mission that can guarantee security” in Hormuz, the Minister stated yesterday during an appearance on the program Diario del Giorno on TG4 television, adding, “I hope that a multinational United Nations security mission will be established.”
The Italian Defense Minister stated that “all nations, not only European and NATO members, but also all Asian nations and India, would participate, since the energy impact of the Strait of Hormuz falls primarily on Asia.”
Regarding the conflict that erupted on February 28th between Israel and the United States against Iran, which led to the current situation in that maritime area, the Minister expressed that “our job is to promote de-escalation,” and noted that the conflict generates rejection and concern among Italians.
