The ship will depart from the Progreso port, in the southeastern state of Yucatan, and a day later, three more will depart from Isla Mujeres, in the state of Quintana Roo, aimed at meeting in Cuba on March 21.
US activist David Adler told Prensa Latina that the ships will depart from Mexico “as the most symbolic, powerful, strong, and proactive country in its solidarity with the people” of the Caribbean nation.
Adler, who is the coordinator of Progressive International (PI), mentioned that the vessels will also transport journalists and representatives of unions, political movements, and parties, amid the tightening of the blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba.
Adler commented that the global initiative envisions activists traveling to the island from more than 30 countries, in an effort that “truly represents the world’s popular conscience in the face of a siege that not only aggravates but also inflames, initiates, and defines the humanitarian crisis in Cuba.”
Due to the complex conditions the Caribbean nation is facing, the organizers decided to opt for more representative delegations rather than massive ones, although thousands of people expressed interest in joining the project.
They called on these political forces in each of the countries to participate on Saturday in acts of support for the Cuban people in the streets and outside the US embassies around the world.
