Uruguay adds its new responsibility in the CELAC to the presidency of the Brasilia Consensus, and the Group of 77 and China.
In the second half of this year he will also be at the head of coordination for the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).
Yesterday, the Uruguayan Foreign Minister, Mario Lubetkin, mentioned priorities in the CELAC such as food security, socioeconomic stability, clean and sustainable energy development, addressing climate disasters and, in particular, to maintain the region as a stage for peace and stability.
He recalled that in 2014 the CELAC adopted a resolution declaring it as a zone of peace.
Lubetkin said that it is a principle to be maintained, although he added new components such as democracy, human rights and the fight against drug trafficking and terrorism.
“It’s all part of the stability we have to give our countries. That’s part of the new peace scenario we set for ourselves,” he said.
