Putin highlights high level of relations with CIS countries

Moscow, Mar 21 (Latin Press) Russian President Vladimir Putin sent on Saturday greetings on Nowruz (Iranian New Year) to the leaders of countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), emphasizing the high level of bilateral relations.

The Kremlin informed that the messages were sent to the presidents of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev; Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev; Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov; Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon; Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow; and Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Putin highlighted, in his congratulatory messages, the high level achieved in relations between Russia and those countries, and expressed his confidence that the mutually beneficial and comprehensive ties will continue to develop successfully in the future.

March 21 marks Nowruz, also known as International Day of Nowruz, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on February 23, 2010.

The holiday coincides with the spring equinox, which can fall on March 19, 20, or 21, when Iranian and Turkic peoples celebrate the arrival of the new year according to the solar astronomical calendar, unlike the Muslim calendar, which is based on lunar cycles.

Nowruz” translates to “new day.”
