Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari said at a press conference that Doha “welcomes any contact” that contributes to a diplomatic solution of the conflict.
He stressed that his country’s position is clear in favour of ending hostilities by political means and emphasized that bringing the parties to the negotiating table constitutes the best option for achieving stability.
Al-Ansari specified that Qatar is not involved in direct mediation between Washington and Tehran, despite recent statements by US President Donald Trump about alleged talks between the two sides.
Nevertheless, he indicated that his country maintains regional contacts with the aim of helping to stop the war and reduce the ongoing escalation.
The statements come amid reports of possible US-Iran contacts, although Iranian sources denied such versions and called them part of a media strategy.
The regional context continues to be marked by the military escalation that began at the end of February, with Israeli and US attacks against Iran, followed by a response from Tehran using missiles and drones against Israeli targets and positions linked to US interests in the region.
