Sudanese paramilitaries announce capture of strategic city

Khartoum, March 26 (Prensa Latina) Sudanese paramilitary forces announced they have captured the city of Kurmuyk, near the border with Ethiopia, local media reported.

According to a statements by the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF), their forces were supported by local militias, and the fighting was fierce, resulting in hundreds of casualties for the army.

It was also announced that the RSF established military bases in the region near the Ethiopian border and confirmed control of Kurmuyk, along with the areas of Al Baraka and Al Kili, following the clashes.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese army has not confirmed the capture of the strategic city or the outcome of the fighting.

Kurmuyk is considered a very important enclave for the region’s trade routes with Ethiopia, military specialists noted on Thursday. Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in civil war, following escalating power struggles between Army Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The fighting has destroyed countless livelihoods, plunging the country into a complex spiral of hunger and death.
