Perez-Oliva, who is participating in the meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) being held this Friday in the Kazakh city of Shymkent, stated, “Cuba has not gave up, nor will it cease, in its commitment to defend its independence and absolute sovereignty at any cost.”
The Cuban deputy prime minister, who also serves as Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Minister, denounced that the US energy blockade has caused “a tough situation” in the Cuban economy, especially regarding fuel availability, which impacts all aspects of the population’s daily life.
The high-ranking Cuban official underscored that his country will not relinquish its right to acquire freely and sovereignly the inputs and resources necessary for development, including the fuel supplies demanded by the Cuban people.
Perez-Oliva previously held a meeting on the sidelines of the EAEU Intergovernmental Council session with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, where they discussed bilateral cooperation.
Cuba is participating in the meeting as an observer state of the EAEU. Iran, represented by its Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Ali Akbar Jokar, and Uzbekistan, whose Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov heads the delegation, are also attending with the same status. Tajikistan, a guest country, is represented by Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda.
