The Caribbean nation’s embassy in this capital highlighted the Timorese government’s expressions of solidarity and its call to end the blockade, a report also expanded upon by the Tatoli news agency.
The official statement reflects that the intensification of restrictive measures, including extraterritorial ones, has contributed to a multidimensional crisis in Cuba that directly affects living conditions and access to food, medical care, and other vital services.
The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Government Spokesperson, Agio Pereira, declared on behalf of his government that “Timor-Leste continues to follow with concern the situation facing the Cuban people and reaffirms its commitment to solutions based on dialogue and respect for international law.”
Furthermore, the government expressed its gratitude to the Cuban people for their unwavering support, the statement added, recalling the extensive cooperation between the two nations.
In this regard, the declaration highlights Cuba’s contribution to Timor-Leste’s struggle for national liberation, cooperation that has continued particularly in the training of over a thousand Timorese doctors and in health, education, and sports programs in this Southeast Asian country.
At the same time, Timor-Leste reiterated that international relations must be guided by dialogue and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, including the rights of peoples to development and well-being.
