The sports publication Jit, from the island’s Sports Institute, reported the news after competition authorities notified Jamaica of its withdrawal from the qualifying match scheduled to take place in Santiago de Cuba.
This decision awarded the victory to the Cubans, who thus qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Games as the second-ranked Caribbean team.
With Jamaica’s withdrawal, the Cuban soccer players secured their right to represent the island at the oldest regional multi-sport event in the world.
