In the first day of the meeting, the more than 60 delegates reviewed the activities carried out last year, including the shipment of medicines, participation in demonstrations, and condemnation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the Caribbean nation by the United States.

The association’s president, Fabrice Leclerc, highlighted the coordination in the area of ​​solidarity with Cuba with other associations and political forces, such as the French Communist Party; the work in the area of ​​communication against disinformation and media manipulation; fundraising; and the use of public platforms, particularly the Fête de l’Humanite, to expose the reality of the island and denounce Washington’s blockade.

It also marked the arrival last year in the Caribbean nation of a container with medical supplies and the goal of preparing new shipments, a purpose to which representatives of local committees referred.

Delegates’ interventions addressed the importance of mobilizing against the escalating hostility toward Cuba by the administration led by Donald Trump and its oil embargo, the promotion of new initiatives, increased pressure on the French government to reject this aggressive policy, and the call to strengthen the organization.

They also exchanged views on the challenge that the extraterritorial nature of the US embargo against Cuba poses to solidarity work, particularly its impact on banks, which impede transfers and donations.

The general assembly will elect the leadership of France Cuba, created in 1961, making it not only the oldest of its kind in the country but also one of the first associations established worldwide to support the island and its people.
