The event, which runs until March 30, began last night with the performance “Del pi al pa” (From Pi to Pa), in homage to the 60th anniversary of Los Colines theater group, which belongs to the Mejunje center.

Participating in the festival include, among other groups, the Escambray Theater Group, Teatro sobre el camino (Theater on the Road), the Teresita Fernandez Artistic Brigade, the Santa Clara Puppet Theater, and the Mejunje company.

Playwright and theater director Ramon Silverio told the press that the festival extends to other communities in the region and is linked to other projects in this capital city of the central Cuban province of Villa Clara.

“Mejunje Teatral 2026 is organized with gratitude to Los Colines, founded four decades ago in the foothills of the Escambray mountain range, which maintains the respect of the public who admire the actors’ talent,” Silverio stated.

“Growing and presenting its works both in the plains and in the mountains has been a principle of theater in Villa Clara, which we maintain with full vigor in these times of crisis resulting from the cruel blockade imposed by the United States against our peaceful and supportive island,” declared the National Community Culture Award winner.
