The semi-official Mehr news agency specified that the bombing hit the building located on Taleghani Street, known as the “nest of spies,” a term used in Iran after the events of 1979.
According to the source, several nearby businesses were damaged as a result of the attack, while images broadcast by local media showed plumes of smoke rising from the vicinity.
So far, no casualties have been reported, nor have there been any official statements from Washington or Tel Aviv regarding the incident.
The former US diplomatic compound was occupied on November 4, 1979, by Iranian students following the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, an event that marked the breaking of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The site now functions as a museum.
