Perez told the Bayano Digital newspaper that Cuba has always been prepared for a war of intervention by the United States, as demonstrated at the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961, where a mercenary army heavily armed by the CIA was crushed.
The ambassador added that the island has resisted, for more than six decades, the criminal blockade imposed by Washington, as well as the covert attacks of bacteriological warfare against agriculture and livestock, and none of these perverse plans managed to yield the patriotic will of the population that rejects the US blockade.
The diplomat added that the Cuban territory “has always been desirable for the hegemonic ambitions of the United States.”
This explains the current administration’s interest in stifling the Caribbean nation’s economy and its Revolution, to make them succumb amid a war of slander, media lies, and attempts at isolation.
The official emphasized that “the Cuban military system rests on defense, based on the war of the entire population.”
He stated that his country does not attack any nation in the world, but neither does it cower in the face of the asymmetry exhibited by the US military force on the global stage.
He also denounced the tightening of the energy blockade against Havana over the last four months, coinciding with the military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran.
He argued that these military actions in a region rich in oil and gas jeopardize peace and the stability of fuel prices worldwide, sowing uncertainty and great unease in hydrocarbon markets.
Amid this complex situation, Perez praised the solidarity of friendly nations and peoples, including Brazil, Mexico, Spain, and Russia, whose governments dared to break the US blockade against the Caribbean island to create a humanitarian corridor and deliver vital supplies to the population.
