Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning urged a halt to military actions against Iran and a boost in talks, following statements by US President Donald Trump over further attacks on that country.

Mao added that China urges the parties involved to cease military operations immediately and begin talks as soon as possible to avoid more serious impacts on the global economy and global energy security.

The spokesperson also noted that the disruptions to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz stem from illegal military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The official indicated that only a ceasefire and stability in the Gulf region will guarantee the security of international shipping lanes.

Mao stated that all parties must contribute to reducing tensions and preventing further damage to the global economy and energy supply.
