Rome City Hall stands with Cuba, decries US blockade

Rome, April 2 (Prensa Latina) The Rome City Hall, the Italian capital, approved a motion of support for Cuba in response to the hardening of the United States' aggressive policy against the country, with an economic blockade that violates the human rights of its people.

Rome recognizes itself as “a city of peace, dialogue, and cooperation among peoples, promoting the values of solidarity, respect for human rights, and international law,” the text, presented by Alessandro Luparelli and Michela Cicculli, councilors of the Civic Left Ecologist Party, emphasizes.

The Italian capital “plays an active role in building international relations based on multilateralism, decentrali

zed cooperation, and the promotion of fraternity among communities,” the signatories add.

Given these events, the motion urges the Italian government to inform Parliament on this issue and to undertake diplomatic initiatives at the European and multilateral levels against these actions.

Furthermore, the motion should be sent to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, as well as to the European Union.

It establishes the official support of the Rome City Council for the “Energy for Life” campaign, co-sponsored by ANAIC, the Italian General Confederation of Labor, the National Association of Italian Partisans, and the Cultural Association for Social Promotion (ARCI), to support the Cuban electrical system.

It also calls for promoting, in coordination with the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI) and other local authorities, the approval of solidarity cooperation programs with Cuba and for promoting the “Energy for Life” campaign throughout the country, among other initiatives.
