“I don’t think we should present this situation as something that just arose. Cuba is our closest ally and partner in the Caribbean region. I can reiterate our unwavering solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Cuba,” Zakharova expressed.
And this Wednesday, the 23rd meeting of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Trade, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation took place in St. Petersburg.
Within the framework of this commission, 14 working groups operate, periodically examining various topics of bilateral cooperation.
Russian Deputy Energy Minister Yevgeny Grabchak reported that during the working group meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, including increasing oil production and refining in Cuba.
According to the official, they also discussed ongoing projects such as the Boca de Jaruco project and technological cooperation with the Cuban state-owned company Cupet to increase extraction in other crude oil fields.
Furthermore, both sides examined collaboration in the electricity sector, including renewable energy, and defined priority measures for the repair of power units, as well as the possible creation of a specialized center for the maintenance of thermoelectric power plant equipment.
Regarding training, initiatives to train Cuban personnel in the energy sector at Russian universities were analyzed.
