An editorial published on the Il Faro di Roma online newspaper states that, for the Italian people, supporting the Cuban Revolution in the face of the intensified aggression from US imperialism means “opposing a system of global coercion that uses the blockade as a covert weapon of war.” The text states, “What is happening today represents a radical change, as the tightening of measures, the threats of military intervention, and the pressure on third countries to break economic relations with Havana are a veritable siege.”
Cuba is facing unprecedented levels of economic and political pressure, the document reads, adding that the clear objective of such actions is “to subjugate a country that, since 1959, has opted for sovereignty, social justice, and internationalism.”
The release highlights the fact that more and more organizations are joining the call, launched by the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC), for a demonstration in Rome on April 11 in support of the island nation, given the increase in threats from Washington against it.
The call for this march also has the support of important groups such as the Global Peace Mobilization Network, the Italian Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC), the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), the Union of Base Trade Unions (USB), and the Italian Communist Party (PCI), among others.
