NGO warns of danger from thousands of unexploded ordnance in Gaza

Ramallah, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza warned on the serious dangers stemming from the continued dispersal of thousands of unexploded ordnance in several areas of the territory due to the Israeli aggression.

The non-governmental organization affirmed that those remnants of war pose a direct and daily threat to the lives of the more than two million people who live there.

They seriously hinder relief and reconstruction efforts, the organization underscored on International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, observed every April 4.

It denounced that the massive bombing of Gaza Strip left enormous quantities of unexploded projectiles, missiles, and explosive materials that are now buried under rubble, in the streets, on agricultural land, and in residential areas.

It stressed that this situation made any displacement of the population extremely dangerous.

The Center considered the presence of these munitions in populated civilian areas a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
