Chile: Concepcion city to host events in support of Cuba

Santiago, Chile, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) The city of Concepcion, capital of Chile's Biobio region, will host important events in solidarity with Cuba, a country currently facing the tightening of the US blockade following the energy siege imposed by President Donald Trump.

The “Cuba Va” campaign, boosted by several movements, including the Jose Marti Cultural Association, known there as La Marti, will begin in that city.

A key aspect of the campaign is the “Operacion 100 Escuelas,” which will focus on collecting school supplies and teaching materials to support elementary and junior high schools in several Cuban provinces.

La Marti and the Varsot Foundation will screen the documentary “Che Guevara en el Siglo XXI” (Che Guevara in the 21st Century), by Italian-Bolivian filmmaker Walter Uliano Pistelli.

The film consists of two parts. The first one entitled “Children of the Revolution,” includes testimonies from relatives of some of the combatants who accompanied Che in Bolivia in 1967 and died in combat.

The second part, entitled “Being Revolutionary,” features exclusive interviews with survivors of that campaign, including Harry Villegas and Leonardo Tamayo, who recount lesser-known moments of the struggle in that country.

The filmmaker stated that Chile is one of several countries in the region that Che Guevara visited at some point, before arriving in Mexico.

The funds raised during this tour, he said, will be used to strengthen the work of the Latin American News Agency, Prensa Latina, founded at the initiative of Fidel Castro and Ernesto “Che” Guevara.
