The fuel, from the Novosibirsk chemical concentrate plant, is intended “for the first core loading of the VVER-1200 pressurised water reactor in Unit 3 of the Xudabao nuclear power plant, located in Liaoning province,” the official statement emphasizes.
Previously, the director general of the Russian state nuclear energy corporation (Rosatom), Alexei Likhachev, said that Unit 3 of Xudabao would be operational in 2026.
In 2019, Moscow and Beijing signed a contract for the construction of reactors 3 and 4 of the Xudabao plant, as well as for the supply of nuclear fuel.
According to the contract, the Russian side will design the plant’s nuclear island, provide the main equipment for both units, and offer technical supervision services during engineering, assembly, and commissioning.
